Where do you guys get your leather?
Sustainability and respect for our environment is an important part of who we are. Our leather is sourced from manufacturing workshops that often discard excess leather. What we gather is then curated so that only premium quality, natural vegetable-tanned leather is used in the crafting of our products. We believe that this process of revitalization makes the product you receive a more meaningful one.
Why are the products so limited?
Most, if not all, our leather are 'rescues'. In other words, they are salvaged from cut-and-sew manufacturers who discard unused leather. This makes color choices limited in the sense that we never know what we will find. On the flip side, nothing generates a buzz like discovering for ourselves a unique piece of leather our supporters appreciate.
While salvaging and finding the right type of leather means that we need to have the patience of a puppy waiting for his evening walk, we also believe it to be an ethical way to do what we do.
What type of leather do you use?
We work exclusively with natural, vegetable-tanned leather. This type of leather develops a *patina over time as it absorbs all that is life - water, sun, dirt, heat, oil, and yes, even kitty scratches, puppy licks! Over time, the product you own tells a story - your personal story.
Because of the nature of discarded leather, it is sometimes difficult to trace the origins of a specific piece and how it came to be processed. However, as much as our hands can feel, eyes can see and nose can smell, we try as best as we can to pick only natural vegetable-tanned leather.
*The developing of patina in no way affects the longevity and sturdiness of the leather.
My purchase came with a mark/scratch on it. Can I get a refund?
At this time, we don't do refunds. However, should there be any obvious, major issues with the item you receive, we'd love to send you a replacement! Please send us an email with the item number and include a photo of the damage where possible. We also accept the return of damaged products.
Before requesting for a replacement, we hope you consider two factors:
1) All our items are hand-made and we are involved in the making of your product from start to end – this begins from sustainably sourcing the leather, to personally cutting the material so it is fit for repurposing, to hammering in holes, to hand-stitching the final product. Because of this, it is only natural that an item comes with the markings of a handcrafted product.
2) We only use unwanted scrap leather and refuse to buy an entire hide on its own for ethical reasons. With that said, some of our products may show prior signs of use. We might not know the past life of the leather you now own, but we hope you can still appreciate and accept them the way they are, little scruffs and all.
Can I request a custom order?
We do not take custom orders at the moment. Feel free to shoot us a mail anyway. We try as best as we can to read all requests and find ways to implement popular requests into future releases.
Does 50% of the profits really go to charity?
We don't know how else to put it but yes, nothing less than half of our profits do go to charity.
